ANCESTRAL VILLAGE REPORT FOR
(CHIN KEE KHEE)

(Red signifies the Cantonese pronounciation for the Chinese characters.)
(Green signifies the Mandarin pronounciation for the Chinese characters.)

On July 8th 2002, our TAISHAN.COM staff went on a field trip to research Chin Kee Khee's ancestral village.  In helping with our research, Chin Kee Khee emailed us a depiction of his family tree that indicated the names of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  The depiction also indicated that his great-grandfather came from , (Luk Chuen, Daai Waan/Liu Cun, Da Wan ) village which is located in the Doushan Town of Taishan City.

In conducting this research, our first step was to contact the Chin Clan Association of Taishan to see if they have any information on (Luk Chuen, Liu Cun).  The name of this association is (Wing Chuen Yut Hon Se, Ying Chuan Yue Kan She).  It is located on the second floor of a building in south Taicheng where it's a five-minute ride from our offices.  Photo 1 below shows the building's entrance and Photo 2 shows the door entrance on the second floor.  (The photos below may be enlarged by clicking on them.)  The association publishes a magazine twice a year known as Wing Chuen Monthly.  A copy of the front cover of this magazine is shown in Photo 2A.  Subscription to this magazine is free as the association is supported by donations only.

The contact address and telephone for the Chin Clan association of Taishan is shown to the right.  Photo 3 and Photo 4 below show the office environment of the (Wing Chuen Yut Hon Se, Ying Chuan Yue Kan She) inside as it is big and well-furnished enough to accommodate large meetings.  Currently, only three people are working at this association as shown in Photo 5 below.  From the interview we conducted with the people at this office, we found out that (Luk Chuen, Liu Cun) area has its own Chin Clan association by the name of (Tai Ling Yut Hon Se, Ti Ling Yue Kan She).  Our next step was to locate this association in (Luk Chuen, Liu Cun)

After a half an hour drive to Doushan, we were able to locate (Tai Ling Yut Hon Se, Ti Ling Yue Kan She) quite easily.  Its contact address and phone number is shown to the right.  The association also publishes a magazine known as the Ti Ling Monthly.  Photo 5A shows the front cover of this magazine.  Similar to the Wing Chuen Monthly magazine, it also comes out twice a year and it is free as the (Tai Ling Yut Hon Se, Ti Ling Yue Kan She) is also supported by donations only.  As we enter (Tai Ling Yut Hon Se, Ti Ling Yue Kan She) office, on the right is a wall filled with names showing the names of people who donated money to this association and a brief description of the ancestral beginnings of (Luk Chuen, Liu Cun).  This is shown in Photo 6.  Towards the back of the office is an ancestral shrine of (Luk Chuen, Liu Cun) ancestors as shown in Photo 7.

The (Tai Ling Yut Hon Se, Ti Ling Yue Kan She) office is currently being maintained by one person.  It is capable of holding small meetings as it has a long table shown in Photo 8.  The meetings are held at least a couple of meetings every year as most of the members are from the United States.  The person in charge of this association does not know if anyone in this association comes from Malaysia.  Outside of the office is a balcony where one can view the new (Daai Waan Siu Hok, Da Wan Xiao Xue) elementary school as shown in Photo 9.

After consultation with the person in charge of this association, he was able to guide us to locate Chin Kee Khee's ancestral home in (Daai Waan, Da Wan).  We were able to locate his home as it consists of 3 buildings; each building was about 3 stories tall.  Photo 10 shows the entrance to one of these buildings as it was the home of Chin Kee Khee's great-grandfather, (Chan Yin Yi, Chen Xian Yi) who had passed away.  Currently, (Chan Yin Yi, Chen Xian Yi) great-grandson, (Chan Pui Jing, Chen Pei Zhen) and his wife are taking care of the house as shown in Photo 11.

Based from our interview with (Chan Pui Jing, Chen Pei Zhen) (Photo 12), we were able to find out that (Chan Pui Jing, Chen Pei Zhen) was borned in Malaysia back in 1947.  He later came over to China with his father in 1948 and has never been back to Malaysia since then.  He has seen his great-grandfather, (Chan Yin Yi, Chen Xian Yi), when he was young and knew that (Chan Yin Yi, Chen Xian Yi) became rich working in Malaysia.  We were not able to locate a photo of (Chan Yin Yi, Chen Xian Yi), but we were able to get photos of (Chan Pui Jing, Chen Pei Zhen) other ancestors as their photos are displayed on the ancestral shrines in his house.
